Swell coming in and looks best for Sunday AM.   Saturday should be strong NNE winds bringing in some low period chop, but by late Saturday night, Sunday early morning the winds start backing off.   Saturday will be great just to watch the Cocoa Beach air show with the Thunderbirds,  hopefully a Raptor will show for more than just one fly-by ;), and some nice beach day with high winds.

On Sunday, it looks like it will be waist to chest high for the j-ave break, and up to head high down south around the base and some of the rock reef breaks.  The winds turn to ESE after midnight Saturday possibly around 4 mph, and drop down to a 3 to 7 mph range in the AM, possibly even offshore for an hour at daybreak (SSW offshore), and back to ESE.   Looks like there could be some fun lines coming in,  the size should drop off throughout Sunday, but should still have some leftovers Monday.  Low tide is around 8:45 AM Sunday morning so that should work.

Wish I could be out there, but have a great sesh!

Thursday morning (10/28/10)

Still looks like that long period swell (in other words ground swell)  is headed our way.  Saturday looks to get some chest high plus waves, with winds strong enough to put salt/water on your car across A1A.

When you’re rinsing your car off in the morning, stop by the “Bald Strawberry”.   Linda Lopez has this awesome bakery with fresh bread, cookies, cake to order and some more great stuff.   (Linda,  I just wanted to put in a plug there 🙂

Back to surf, Sunday the winds are supposed to back off to fairly light onshores probably in the 5 to 10 mph out of the east.  Low tide at 8:45 am  so it should be waist to chest high here in Canaveral,  and possibly head high down south toward 2nd light, o-club, and the awesome rock/reef breaks.

Monday could provide some off shore winds for a while in the early am, with diminished size, but still ought to be waist high plus down south there.

If I see any major front changes, we’ll update tonight, otherwise a Friday night 120 buoy report will be in order.

Hope ya can get out there Sunday morning while the size is up there.  Later

Tuesday nite (10/26/10)

I want to give a solid estimate of what we have coming this weekend and Monday,  but my hearts not into it.   When I am unable to surf,  I don’t track it like the fanatic that I am normally.

I hope to be back in the water by mid-November ;(

Anyhow,  looks like it starts to blow in Saturday, with winds backing down on Sunday, and maybe we’ll get a 4 to 6 hour section with offshore winds, maybe Monday morning.

I’ll try to follow it, but I’m not doing so hot right now.

Thanks for understanding.

Wednesday nite (10/20/10) update

Saturday looks like the main part of the Nor’easter wind (not groundswell) will be upon us.  As it stands, it looks like chest to shoulder-high choppy waves by evening time Saturday or by Sunday morning, with winds in the 15 – 25 mph range out of the east.  Size looks like it will hold up thru Sunday and Monday in the waist to shoulder-high range,  but remember, we’re talking mega choppy conditions.

Sunday morning around 9 Am looks to be the best time to go out.  Why,  it’ll be high tide going low, so the chop should be manageable, a much smoother paddle out on high tide, and our swells break better high going low so there may even been some fun shoulders out there if you go down south to one of the Patrick breaks.

Monday and/or Tuesday might be pretty fun at Playalinda.   The winds will be SE on Monday, and as a point in fact: winds directly out of the South are 32 degrees offshore at Playalinda,  so some of those SE winds will probably be SSE.  On Tuesday, which it looks like something may remain out there (keep in mind that this is one big wind swell, and it can weaken, move up, or whatever,  so these predictions are based on the models tonight), so Tuesday it should be S to SSW winds which is perfect for Playalinda.

Have a great rest of your week folks.

Since we haven’t had any swells of interest since Otto,  I’m just kinda laying low for now.

Thanks.

Friday nite (10/15/10), same as Wednesday

Same status as small Nor’easter that will slightly affect us.  Don’t get your hopes up.  My rib needs to heal anyhow 🙂

Have a great weekend, should be nice and almost cool !

Small Nor’easter coming (10/13/10) update

Just kidding ! No. 41597 from MagicSeaweed.com, a nice wave at LaHinch Ireland
Just kidding ! No. 41597 from MagicSeaweed.com, a nice wave at LaHinch Ireland.

Hey it looks like we have Nor’easter coming that maybe hits on Saturday with full strength on Monday.

Size and conditions I can’t say too much, except that I wouldn’t expect anything bigger than waist-high during the peak of the swell, and no offshore winds as it looks right now.

Saturday night maybe something ridable.  Sunday, thigh to waist with 10 to 15 mph on shores, Monday the strength of the swell peaks but looking like thigh high with 8 to 10 on the winds, onshore.

Not much more to say,  the Bahamas will get a little more than us, but not much, it’s mostly looking to stay off the coast by 500 miles or so where the full strength will be. The moving ocean swell chart below shows how the swell looks at 7 Am Monday morning.

Oh well.

Missed the Report, my bad (10/13/10)

My apologies for not paying attention to the swell that came in for Otto on Friday (the 8th) and Saturday (the 9th).

I will mention, that we had a shoulder to head high day on Friday and thigh to occasional chest high morning on Saturday.

I did surf Friday at the end of the street (when it was shoulder to head-high further south), and caught some thigh to waist-high waves that were perfect glass, pretty fun with some workable walls and the last half of the ride was a nose-rider if you wanted to make it to the sand.

Saturday morning,  I got a little wise, and hit a mega-high-tide break, surfed from 8:30 till 12:30, and it was perfection with as much power as you can ask for.  Crazy thing was it was only breaking out 100 yards, and yet the rides (for a longboard) many of which exceeded 100 yard rides.   I counted quite a few 8 and 10 second rides for other people.

Totally workable walls for my 10.0 longboard, and the shortboarders I was surfing with were nailing just as many waves.  Barrelling right and left, with quite a few squatted barrells to be seen.  Got a couple myself, with a cracked rib to show for it 🙂

Anyhow,  I learned that no where was it breaking Saturday morning (which included Hightowers, Seagull, Hangers, 2nd Light, O-club) , unless you were out after 11 or 11:30, or unless you were at a mega-high-tide break.  I got lucky and checked one at 8:15 am, and it was cranking.  Funny thing was, one of my buddies that went with me was in a group at the same break that only got a few rides, but then 150 yards south, 5 or 6 other people and myself had at least 30 or more killer rides,  literally until you were exhausted.  2 longboarders and I think 5 shortboarders.

It really made a huge difference to be at a mega-high-tide only break on Saturday,  Friday I don’t know cause I didn’t get out until 11 am anyhow.

Anyhow, just thought I’d pass that one along.  Moral – know the very best high tide break.

Wednesday mid day update (10/6/10)

Hey it was fun at the end of the street from 8 to 9:30 am.  Easy paddle out, fairly clean shoulder high plus waves.   It was cleaner outside than shoreview, meaning when you paddled, ya didn’t keep hitting chop ripples.  It was actually reasonably clean.  Out for an hour or so.   2 or 3 really fun rides,  you just had a 10 minute wait or so per wave for a shoulder, crazy insane drops,  ate it 2 or 3 times, whatever 🙂

Thursday morning could be even better!!!  It should be much cleaner than this morning if the link (wind direction chart) below holds consistent like it did last night.

This morning when I checked da weather channel, and just now when I checked (2 PM) ,  its showing winds turn North at midnight tonight thru 10 am Thursday morn for Cocoa Beach, and Cape North till 7 Am,  and work their way down to 12 mph, maybe 15.  Check it out for yourself on the Cocoa Beach winds link: http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/outdoors/hourbyhour/USFL0089?begHour=2&begDay=280    So that means,  offshore for the cape and the pier!  (I should say, slightly offshore !)

Johnson Ave., North winds mean 4 degrees offshore, and at the cape, more like 9  or 10.    The pier probably 2 degrees, but plus the pier blocks.  I’m thinking chest high plus (at Johnson) and semi-glassy or clean with lots of texture in the morning.    Definitely wear a rash guard.  It will be chilly.  The water is still warm, but the breeze n air temp will be cool.

Should be a good sesh in the morning, but make sure and hit it 8ish so the winds are in your favor, they turn NE around 10 ish.   Plus the tide is perfect, high going low, easy paddle out, lots of power, and much cleaner when its high going low.

Hope you can head out.   It was just me and some other loner a couple hundred yards away this morn.

Later,

Tuesday call for Wed. Am (10/5/10)

Wednesday morning while high tide is going low, might be your best chance at riding some manageable big chop.

High tide is 6:47 Am,  so while it’s going low, from 8 to 10 may be some fun chop slop head high plus waves,  with a reasonable paddle out on a longboard.  After 10 ,  it will probably look like a washing machine..

The winds are showing around 15 mph N to NNE at daybreak, and increasing to over 20 mph as the morning goes on.

Jetty Park and the Pier are your best bet  for winds and ease of paddle out.

Saturday or Sunday may have some clean waves, but will just have to wait and see.

We’ll let ya know how Wednesday morning was after 9 or 10 Am.
