Yes, we had some one to two foot overhead drops on some of the sets today! Solid Chest to Head high waves, See the Video below 🙂 How bout Tuesday?
Tuesdayshould be thigh to waist high, with maybe a few chest high sets, but my guess is down south only on the upper end.Winds should be great everywhere, WNW at daybreak, turning NW and then to North by around Noon.
Video shot in Satellite Beach, by Walk On Water Productions 🙂
Monday Surf is Looking Great!Possible Chest to Shoulder high waves , down south best bet for offshore winds SSW early to maybe SW in early afternoon 8 to 12 mph winds starting stronger in the morning.
Tuesdayis looking smaller but more glass. Waist to Chest high
Video of Similar possible size for Monday, filmed in Satellite Beach:
High tide is at 11 on Friday +or-, and the swell will be fully in, but the reason for the call on time, is its 2 hours after high tide which is good for form, and the wind should turn south by noon or a little after from onshore wind. South is offshore, from 4th Street south and further. Best for 2nd light and Satellite beach. And if you want closer to perfection, Spanish house, South winds are 26 degree offshore , instead of just 10 degree offshore as in Satellite Beach. Size should be chest high with maybe some bigger sets 🙂
Won’t be this glassy, but it should be this size at the pier or better, and definitely bigger down south. This short board (2nd half of video), was shot on February 27, 2013:
Monday, should have waist to chest high waves, maybe a few bigger sets down south, if the 2nd part of this swell comes rolling in late morning. It should jack the size up a foot bigger on the face than we have had the last few days. More details about Monday morning winds below;
The Video; an incredible late drop in on a 50 foot face at Jaws by Aaron Gold, maybe not quite as perfect as Mark Healey’s Ride of the Year entry, but still incredibly impressive, and , a Nasty Wipeout !
A little more of this swell is coming in late morning Monday, probably after high tide. Winds are South early until 10 or 11ish. It could very well blow SSW in the morning, as the light South winds are to be in the 6 to 8 mph range. Why could it blow SSW? The short of it, land absorbs the sun’s heat much more than the ocean, and overnight, the land cools very quickly and can blow offshore breezes when the prevailing winds are light, and can do so, until the sun starts to warm the land up again in the morning. That’s why these type of offshore winds can happen, but don’t last much longer than an hour or two after first light.
Solid Ground & Windswell mix combined, is headed to us right now, and hit the 20 mile buoy already. The buoy was around 2.6 feet at 10 seconds at 5 AM today (Wednesday morn), and at 12 PM Noon today it hit 6 feet at 10 seconds. More, a little later this afternoon. Friday morning should have chest high plus down south, and waist to chest at the Pier, with very clean lines and clean light winds either offshore or most likely very light onshore. Thursday will be sloppy, but so what, with lots of rain and wind 🙂
Big Windswell coming in this afternoon, with lots of big chop for 3 or 4 days !…Don’t know if u heard about the “Hercules” storm that affected Surf Breaks all around the world.
This Video, of a paddle in session on 10 foot boards at Belharra, France (Basque Country), shows a face 5 or 6 board lengths in height, and some pretty intense attempts to duck dive thru the lip of the wave, but without Good Results!
We have a very cool, unique group of Surfer friends in the neighborhood. And I felt rather obsessed to share the still images and video that I have shot the last few years of as many of us as I could.
I apologize that 3 or 4 people, I was just not around, to get as much photos or video as I could, and in some of the photos, I was forced to shoot footage directly into the Sun, which can definitely degrade the photo or footage. But with that said, I do hope y’all enjoy this, I tried to create in a way to bridge the Young and the Old 🙂
THREE YEARS IN REVIEW VIDEO of Johnson Avenue Surfers will be live on January 1st, 2014, yeah tomorrow 🙂
My apologies for not sharing any reports for the last couple of swells we have had; as Y’all know, my main focus, is to share the Awesome Talent and Efforts, of those that surf from around the Neighborhood, by catching them on Camera or Video. This may be at the end of our street, the Jetty, the Cocoa Beach Pier, Satellite Beach and anywhere in between.

It’s taken me 70 or so hours to compile this baby, so that’s why I’ve been away from sharing any updates, and we all know that Surfline, Seaweed and Ross are there for that purpose anyhow 🙂
I will post the Video sometime New Years Day or tonight if I finish in time. The Surfers present are Chad, Don, Dr. John, Sunny, Me (Oldwaverider), Chuck, Chris (Orlando), Joe (Boston), Lacey, Mike (my buddy from Lakeland), Dave (Sunny’s dad), Scooter, Ron, Tim C., Dennis (Core Surf), and Paul (Jeremy’s kin and the Emu Bird Man).
I apologize if I missed anyone, and if I did, and you know I have footage of you, let me know, and I will update the final Video. The Soundtrack part will be provided by Bob Marley, Guerilla Jazz of Hawaii (I hope) and perhaps one other artist. I tried to use the Shins, but they have the U.S. blocked from using their copyright, so the tunes may have some change if YouTube lets me know.
Thanks for letting me capture the Great Times and Awesome Talent & People in sharing this compilation with You!
Surfing Video of Tim Calderone, with some mixed footage from a couple surf sessions at the Cocoa Beach Pier in November.
Today will provide more waist to chest high wind chop Surf , with chest high sets down in Satellite Beach. Winds, go from NE to ENE thru the day, in the 10 – 15 mph range.
Saturday, size drops and the wind switches to SSE in the morning and for the day.
Sunday, more size drop with strong offshore winds. My guess, it will be mostly to small to ride except longboarders, and mostly at the Pier.
Will we have something fun, Sunday afternoon?BUOY JUST STARTED CLIMBING AROUND 3 AM LAST NIGHT, AS OF 8:23 AM (SUNDAY MORN UPDATE )Think so, fun with light chop in the 8 to 12 mph SE range. Now this backside rail-grabber at Jaws for a 50 foot plus face, Billabong XXL 2013, Ride of the Year entry for Mark Healey, this is once insane, massively skilled drop. He knew Jaws, and how he had to set his rail before bottom, to beat lousing his head on a White Water punch to the head :
Monday, should have a little more size to it, maybe rib to chest high, with winds more like 10 to 15 mph SE or SSE. Playalinda or Spanish House would be the place to go. South winds are 26 degrees offshore for the Inlet and Spanish House, and 36 degrees offshore at Playalinda, so for SSE winds, they could easily waver in between SSE and South.
Tuesday, a little lighter on the wind, with size drop, but could be fun longboard clean waves.
