Saturday morning, light NNE winds in the 3 to 5 mph range, and it could be offsore N to NNW up North here until 8 AM,  and catch this!  17 hours ago, the 20 mile buoy said 5.2 feet at 11 seconds, well, at 9:50 PM tonight (Friday), it also said 5.2 feet at 11 seconds!  And the nearshore buoy said 2.6 feet at 11 seconds at 1:30 this afternoon, well, at 9:50 tonight, it also said 2.6 feet at 11 seconds. The Fort Pierce buoy has held the same too, St. Augustine has dropped from 5 feet something at their 40 mile, to 3.6 at 11 seconds, but they get most North or South swells first anyhow.  So, with the longer period coming in at midnight tonight,  at 10 seconds, we should see some waist to chest high waves Saturday with some nice lines.  Low tide at 3:10 am is the low low tide for the day, and the 9:35 high tide is the high high tide for the day, so that may , hold back some, but my best guess, is dawn patrol gets the biggest stuff, then it drops some, and then in late afternoon, it will pick back up, but with 5 to 7 mph winds.  Should be fun!

Sunday should still have thigh to waist high plus sets and offshore in the morning 🙂

Today was really fun!  Waist to Shoulder high, with a few 6 inch to 1 foot overhead faces on the drop in Satellite Beach.  Nice lines, lots of close outs, but you just had to let em pass by.

Wednesday afternoon, the swell delayed by probably 5 hours finally came in with 5 to 7 foot faces in Satellite, though the winds did pick up a bit in the late afternoon, but I’m sure it was a lot of fun. We did a late 4 PM session at J-Ave, but it was pretty much totally unrideable.  I was kooking severely, but the form was all messed up with sections coming at different angles onto the face of each wave, so only a few percentage of waves, really had a line up here.  My neighbor and a couple of short boarders, go the best results from it.  It was not a good session for longboards, and especially, for a guy kooking at his worst.  But, my morning session in waist to occ chest high waves in Satellite Beach, very clean, was a blast, and the kook was not out then 🙂

This is the best video I have seen of Garrett Mac’s, massive record wave.  Very clean, fairly close up footage by the videographer, and it appears some go pro footage was in there too.

Friday, should have some knee to thigh high leftovers, with maybe some waist high sets in Satellite Beach.  Should be semi to glass early morning.

MORE CHOP W SOME SIZE FOR TODAY AND SATURDAY in the waist to shoulder high face range down South in Satellite, and smaller at the Cape and Pier with 15 to 20 mph onshore winds.  Sunday could have clean light onshore winds, in the 5 to 8 mph range, with waist high plus waves.

Thursday surf at the Pier, around 6 :30 PM last night was rib to chest maybe, but very fun drops.  If u waited, which I did , some long (longboard rides were to be had).  A brutal paddle out for shore.  Had to walk 1/4 mile south of the Pier (longboard), in order to get out, before the south to north current had me on top of the pier.  But it was worth it.  Had to wait 15 or 20 minutes for a wave, which they were only breaking when I drifted to the Pier (behind it), caught 2 fun waves and headed in.

There were two other guys out, a shortboarder getting plenty of rides, another guy who I couldn’t see much, and myself, picky and waiting for the wave that was worth the paddle back out on a 10.0 foot board 🙂

The video below, is some nice footage of clips of a Surf contest in Iceland, where the water temp was 2° Fahrenheit, Ouch!  But the guys shredded, and made it look like warm water reflexes 🙂

EXCELLENT SURF IN SATELLITE BEACH TODAY  🙂

Weather.com held consistent, as it is usually on for me, if I do a Melbourne Beach, Satellite Beach, Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral check so I can see the trend from South to North. It must be a high pressure causing the friendly wind conditions this week, for a lot of Wind Swell with size rolling in, I haven’t looked.  More about today, and later in the week below…

This is part six of a Video series, featuring mainly Kohl Christensen.  The one I posted 3 or 4 posts back, was the 40 foot plus faces in Mullaghmore Head, Ireland in 40 ° water , Ouch!, that Danilo Couto and a few others did a great tow-in session, and a few nominations for the Ride of The Year Entry for Billabong XXL 2013.  The video below, is some epic Mexican Pipeline Escondido, with Kohl, Greg Long and some massive 30 to 40 foot plus face waves and all paddle in, NO TOW!  Escondido, is one of the least User-Friendly beach breaks for big waves, but , they all managed to make the session look totally worthwhile and surviveable 🙂

Today, Thursday morning, It was solid rib to chest high, glassy, lefts were quite hollow, though when I paddled out today around 7:40 AM, it was 45 minutes before high tide, so it was a little tough to grab a wave, but when 30 minutes passed, that’s when the left’s did their thing, and the rights had just perfect , long workable walls.  Many 100 plus yard rides to be had.  That’s what always put’s a smile on my face.  Of course , only 3 other people out, well that also keeps one in high spirits.  One after another, even a little cover from a couple vertical left, rail grabber drop-ins 🙂

We should have waves all week, in the rib to head high range, the bigger stuff coming closer to tuesday.  Offshore winds, well can’t tell yet, but when we see the “Window”, we will pass it on to ya.

SURF UPDATE , thigh high and glassy at the Pier this morning, and bigger down South, and

Saturday should be Long Board fun and glassy in the AM, thigh to waist high plus down South, and perhaps knee high plus at the Cape, smaller than today, but still fun. It is still holding strong in the 2.5 feet at 13 or 14 seconds at our near shore buoy as of 10:30 PM Friday night (now), and at the Fort Pierce Buoy, still around 4 feet at 14 seconds, so we still have a nice ground swell hanging on.  The 120 buoy has been out since the 11th, but I failed to see that the last few days, so I guess my medication is working 🙂

Maybe Sunday. Smaller, but fun as this 10 day piggyback swell subsides 🙂

TUESDAY afternoon is shaping up to be the Gift for us All!  More down below, but for a Tuesday (03/12)  morning 8:10 AM update;  the winds will be lousy at the Cape only until about 3 PM.  (maybe a little before) Why?  South and SSW winds are onshore for us, until SSW becomes more SW.  But since the SSW winds are too strong, it will be sem-choppy anyhow until 2 or 3 PM, my bet is 4 PM.  Then we should see Waist to Chest high at the Cape,  and Chest to Head High Plus in Satellite Beach.  The best time to paddle out, is 4 PM to 5 PM.  Get off work, and enjoy 2 or so hours of big glassy waves, and enjoy Nature’s Happy Hour! (thus ends the Tuesday morning surf update, all below was created the other day )

Monday, looks to remain Chest high to over head at the Cape, and still 1 to 3 feet overhead in Satellite Beach, with 9 to 15 mph SE winds, starting low at daybreak and increasing to mid-afternoon.

Tuesday, Chest high plus at the Cape, and Head high to 2 feet overhead in Satellite Beach. Rain in the morning until noon with winds from the South in the 10 to 15 mph range, slowly switching to SSW until 2ish, and hopefully total OFFSHORE AND SW by 2 or 3 PM in the 10 to 12 mph range.  Then the winds start working there way to WSW until dark.  So from 2 PM until dark (which is now around 7:30 or so, yeah daylight savings 🙂

Wednesday and Thursday, still should have some sizeable leftovers, but the winds are looking to be in the 15 to 20 mph NNW range Wednesday morning.

Massive NE’str with big waves rolls in Friday with a start on Thursday March 7th, Surf Report Update 8:00 PM Sunday , Surf forecast for Cape Canaveral , Cocoa Beach and Satellite Beach (March 03, 2013 posted)

Large Northeast Swell that covers more water area than the US land, and the storm looks to have a 13 to 17 second period , and up to 6 to 8 feet of swell.   Thursday AM the swell starts to roll in, and the long period part of the swell rolls in late Friday afternoon/evening , thru Sunday, maybe thru Tuesday, as it looks right now.

Here is a video of the classic waist high swell at the Pier last Wednesday, the 27th of March.  I shot the video from around 8 to 9 AM.

I got footage of a number of surfers out, here’s 3 really nice rides that Dennis, owner of Core Surf had, on his Starr Longboard.

So, Thursday, we have 4 to 5 feet of swell at around 6 or 7 seconds.  The swell comes in from the straight North,  so we may not even have enough of the swell come into the beaches, maybe something in Satellite Beach.

Friday,  the size builds, thru the day up to 5 feet of swell and the long period, 13 to 14 seconds comes in late afternoon/evening.  Strong N/NE winds.

Saturday, the swell goes to 5 to 7 feet at 13 seconds with strong NE winds.  Surf size should be 6 to 10 faces then.

Sunday,  possibly much bigger, but it’s to far out now to say much 🙂

Wednesday Size still looks to be waist to chest for the Cape, maybe head high for the pier, and epic Overhead glass in Satellite Beach with light 4 to 8 mph W-WNW winds until 1 or 2 ish.

Thursday, Size looks the same and maybe a foot bigger, with winds offshore until later perhaps.  Winds maybe in the 12 to 15 mph range on Thursdday, Friday should have some leftovers with brisk offshore winds also.

Monday morning, South winds, and chest high and semi-glassy down south.  The Cape, with South winds, will be sideshore and half the size.  Tuesday, will be waist high down south and glassy, and thigh high maybe at the Cape and semi glassy . 

Everything below, re surf report was done Friday night, the above was a Sunday night 10:30 PM update.

Wind swell with a little size coming in Saturday night.  Today we had some knee to maybe thigh glass down south.  Sunday, it will be low period 6 or 7 second, meaning no long line, strong onshores, but it will be something to drop in on. Could see some waist to rib  high at the Cape and shoulder high down south. Monday , more of the same, and Tuesday, a chance of morning glass, if you go down south.  Water temp is 69, so it’s skinnable, if you have scales 🙂

Hurricane Sandy was rolling in 10 to 14 foot plus face sets Sunday morning, in Satellite Beach.  I shot this footage (apologies, but this was the first long distance footage, I have shot, and shooting into mostly the sun 😦  )   Anyhow, I hope you enjoy it! Oldwaverider

Pure Ocean TV, who provided a couple of videos I’ve posted here, one, the awesome 10 to 14 foot face waves video of “Frankenstorm”, Hurricane Sandy;  well they provided this awesome still image video clip of photos that they took over 2012.

It is some really nice, really nice nature shots, and some great music to go along with it.  If you like it, make sure and like it.  They do awesome work!

HURRICANE SANDY VIDEO OF JOHNSON AVENUE SURFERS ON SATURDAY.

January 18 update…After being in hibernation, a Surf Report update for Friday, Saturday and Sunday  below…

The video I shot Saturday morning after I had my session, it was the first sizeable and semi-glassy day of Hurricane Sandy.  Winds were up to 35-40 mph NNW, so it made for an interesting drop in no doubt 🙂

Today, Friday January 18, a big NE windswell, not quite a ground swell will be moving in all day, maybe waist high at noon,  but it should be head high by dark, with 25 plus mph NE winds.

Saturday, the winds back down to maybe 15 to 20 mph, NNE to NE, with size in the chest to head high at the Cape, and Overhead down south in Satellite Beach.

Sunday morning looks to be Rib to Head high , North to South, with North winds at daybreak, so a good chance of some NNW winds until 9 or 10 is possible.  Either way, with 8 mph N winds, conditions should be clean and fun.
