Video of Epic surf in Satellite Beach from Saturday morning of Hurricane Gonzalo :) Posted 9:00 AM Sunday morning, 10/19/2014

When we first got to RC’s North at 7:15-7:30, the lines were epic!  I had to earnestly look for a closeout.  After my 2 hours, yes, the closeouts began.  When I started to shoot footage;  but there were still plenty of Waves holding up still from 10 – 12 PM!

(NOTE: To see the best quality, click two of the lower right YouTube icons on the controls.  Click the gear and choose at least 720P or if u have great bandwidth go for 1080P.  Also choose the “Full Screen” icon on the far right, and then start the video over so the quality kicks in.  YouTube defaults at 360P and I can’t blame them!  Turn your volume up too for the Music)

The crowds were nill, yeah, the paddle out and the sets looked intimidating (for Florida, LOL),  but when you see perfect 6-9 foot faces , with a 10 foot face thrown in every 15 minutes or so, heading back North to Cocoa Beach and the Cape did not seem like an option 🙂

Today, we have waist to chest high plus with winds SW at 2nd light wind monitor at the base, and that was around 6 at 8:30 AM, which already changed from WNW.  Get out while you can!

Great Hurricane;  though I do hope and pray Bermuda came out okay …

Video of Johnson Avenue Surfers 3 Years in Review 2011-2013 will be live January 1st 2014 ! and more waves coming :)

THREE YEARS IN REVIEW VIDEO  of Johnson Avenue Surfers will be live on January 1st, 2014, yeah tomorrow 🙂

My apologies for not sharing any reports for the last couple of swells we have had;  as Y’all know, my main focus, is to share the Awesome Talent and Efforts, of those that surf from around the Neighborhood, by catching them on Camera or Video.  This may be at the end  of our street, the Jetty, the Cocoa Beach Pier, Satellite Beach and anywhere in between.

Screenshot capture of Johnson Avenue Surfers 3 Years in Review Video - December 2013
Screenshot capture of Johnson Avenue Surfers 3 Years in Review Video – December 2013

It’s taken me 70 or so hours to compile this baby, so that’s why I’ve been away from sharing any updates, and we all know that Surfline, Seaweed and Ross are there for that purpose anyhow 🙂

I will post the Video sometime New Years Day or tonight if I finish in time.  The Surfers present are Chad, Don, Dr. John, Sunny, Me (Oldwaverider), Chuck, Chris (Orlando), Joe (Boston), Lacey, Mike (my buddy from Lakeland), Dave (Sunny’s dad), Scooter, Ron, Tim C., Dennis (Core Surf),  and Paul (Jeremy’s kin and the Emu Bird Man).

I apologize if I missed anyone, and if I did, and you know I have footage of you, let me know, and I will update the final Video.  The Soundtrack part will be provided by Bob Marley, Guerilla Jazz of Hawaii (I hope) and perhaps one other artist.  I tried to use the Shins, but they have the U.S. blocked from using their copyright, so the tunes may have some change if YouTube lets me know.

Thanks for letting me capture the Great Times and Awesome Talent & People in sharing this compilation with You!

Happy New Year, and Be Safe 🙂

Thursday looks like EPIC DAY! YES, it could fail, but, looks overhead and glassy, Wednesday evening surf report update 6:30 PM November 06 2013, forecast for Cape Canaveral , Cocoa Beach and Satellite Beach , November 06, 2013 posted

Thursday, Last Look, Weather.com shows NW winds at daybreak for the Cape, not Cocoa Beach (now CCB does show from dawn to 8ish NW, yeah), but NW also for Satellite Beach and Melbourne Beach.  Probably cause CCB is at the base of the big old curve of our coastline, but heck, it still could be NW for CCB.

Thursday Sizethe Cape, shoulder to head high,  CCB to 2nd light Shoulder to 1 foot over head plus,  Satellite Beach Shoulder to 2 foot plus overhead.  Tide is Low going high, which ain’t so hot, but at 6 feet and 10 second period swell, it should be breaking outside far enough that the tide won’t affect it to bad.

6 feet at 11 seconds, Satellite Beach, Nov. 10 2011, shot by Oldwaverider (Art Hansen)

Here are two photos I shot from a NE swell like this one (it was a much more perfect swell with a massive fetch, but anyhow),  this storm was a NE swell, was 6 feet at 11 seconds, the swell we have tomorrow is 6 feet at 10 seconds, so probably 30 to 40% less in size an power.  (photo shot November 10, 2011, and had double overhead waves, the barrel was not double overhead, but the 2nd photo was more than double overhead)

Carving n Cruisin at The Pier , a Video from the Pier on Thursday March 14 around 10 AM, Friday morning, with some thigh to chest high leftovers, (Friday morning update 8 to 10 AM) , Surf Report Update…Surf forecast for Cape Canaveral , Cocoa Beach and Satellite Beach (March 15, 2013 posted)

SURF UPDATE , thigh high and glassy at the Pier this morning, and bigger down South, and

Saturday should be Long Board fun and glassy in the AM, thigh to waist high plus down South, and perhaps knee high plus at the Cape, smaller than today, but still fun. It is still holding strong in the 2.5 feet at 13 or 14 seconds at our near shore buoy as of 10:30 PM Friday night (now), and at the Fort Pierce Buoy, still around 4 feet at 14 seconds, so we still have a nice ground swell hanging on.  The 120 buoy has been out since the 11th, but I failed to see that the last few days, so I guess my medication is working 🙂

Maybe Sunday. Smaller, but fun as this 10 day piggyback swell subsides 🙂

Carvin’ and Cruisin’ at the Pier Surf Video, as we enjoy learning the world of motion graphics, at Walk On Water Productions.  With some awesome talent at the Pier, some of our Gifted Longboarders, and some shortboarders workin on their Aerials…hope you enjoy!  I accompanied the video with a Jason Mraz tune, that seemed to flow with the mellow crowd yesterday morning.

Have a Great Weekend!

Monday Feb. 25 6:15 PM, Surf Report Update , plus Hurricane Sandy surf photos, Surf forecast for Cape Canaveral , Cocoa Beach and Satellite Beach (February 25, 2013 posted)

WAVES FOR 5 DAYS , MAYBE!  Ground Swell rolling in, already here down south…..More on the swell, down below 🙂 WOW, They got the 120 and the 20 mile buoy working in the last couple hours! (updated comment at 9:45 PM Monday night)

The photos below are from Hurricane Sandy, in Satellite Beach, from the big day Sunday , October 28, 2012.  This was not one of the bigger sets, but it was one of the perfect formed sets for sure.  A three shot sequence, that I took with, yes, a few settings out of place on the camera.  I had to do some damage control, by dropping a “Levels” filter on it, my bad 🙂

Hurricane Sandy, Sunday, October 28, 2012, Satellite Beach, 3 shot sequence by Oldwaverider
Hurricane Sandy, Sunday, October 28, 2012, Satellite Beach, 3 shot sequence by Oldwaverider

A long period ground swell that comes from the East (not NE), has hit Fort Pierce, already in the 3.5 foot at 13 second range, and is just hitting our near shore buoy as of 6:15 PM today, (41113 buoy). The 20 and 120 mile buoy are out, so this one’s a little tricky , but since it has not hit Augustine except for jump in size from 3 to 6 feet but at 6 seconds, the ground swell has not hit them yet, but it has hit Fort Pierce, so yeah, it’s mostly an Easterly swell (as of 6 PM today) The winds are S-SE in Satellite Beach, and it looks pretty clean there, definitely bigger than waist high.

Hurricane Sandy, Image 2 of 3 shot sequence
Hurricane Sandy, Image 2 of 3 shot sequence

Tuesday, the swell is here for sure, with strong South winds in the 15 to 20 mph range, waist high plus at the Cape, and chest high range in Satellite Beach.  Early morning, could be clean, semi-glass in Satellite Beach when the winds are in the 10 to 15 mph South range.  Choppy at the Cape.  BUT!!!!!!!  Tuesday afternoon, along with the 30 to 50% showers, we could have SW winds here at the Cape an hour or two before dark between say 4 and 7 PM, so we have a chance of waist to rib and glassy, just before dark!

Hurricane Sandy, Image 3 of 3 shot sequence
Hurricane Sandy, Image 3 of 3 shot sequence

Wednesday, waist to rib at the Cape with bigger sets, and W to WNW winds in the 10 to 15 mph range. Satellite Beach should see chest to shoulder high waves, with a few head high rogue sets 🙂

Thursday, a new swell piggybacks the outgoing one, it starts rolling in Wednesday late, and we should see the same size as Wednesday for the Cape and Satellite.  The swell drops off by late afternoon Thursday, but should hang around with something thru Saturday, in the thigh to rib high range, with brisk offshore winds over 15 mph, for Thursday thru maybe Saturday.

Chest high plus Ground Swell incoming for late Friday morning, more Surfing Photos from Hurricane Sandy 9 to 12 foot faces (with a maybe 16 foot face at Boynton Inlet), Thursday afternoon Surf Report Update 11/08/12 2:30 PM, Surf forecast for Cape Canaveral , Cocoa Beach and Satellite Beach (November 08, 2012 posted)

Photo Gallery from Hurricane Leslie, photos by Mike Melito, and one anonymous Boynton Inlet, FL massive wave.

Incoming ground swell for Friday morning should be bringing in some Chest high plus waves.  Maybe not at the Cape, but the Pier or a couple miles South of the pier should see increased size the further South you go.  The swell angle is so steep, at 9 AM Friday, 49 °, and straight offshore is 90, so our launch pads may block out a lot of this swell, at least the first day. (see rest of update, below photos)

We should see chest to shoulder high ground swell type power surf with onshore winds most of the week thru Saturday, and Sunday and Monday, more of the same but less power and a wind swell, however;

Friday morning , the winds switch from NNW at daybreak, toNorth at 8 to 12 mph until around 10 AM, so we could have some semi-glassy waves, thigh to chest high in the morning, at least somewhere between the Cape and 4rth Street North.  South of Minuteman CSWY, North winds are onshore.

RC’S PHOTOS FIRST

In the morning, Sunday,  we should see some chest high waves here at the Cape and Shoulder high in Satellite Beach, but more on that in a minute………….

These photos are from the epic Saturday surf provided by Hurricane Leslie, and they were taken in Satellite Beach at RC’s and also at the Cocoa Beach Pier, by my friend Mike Melito.

Size seemed to range from 8 foot faces to very close to double overhead, but maybe not quite.  Conditions were glassy, and those that crave big Florida Hurricane waves in Brevard, like to head to RC’s, Hightowers,  and that’s what these lucky folks did!  I was out of town, ouch, but very lucky that my friend Mike took the time to get these incredible photos.  First RC’s and then the Pier.

Perfect glassy RC's face and bottom turn, totally makeable, a happy man no doubt :)

Sunday surf;  Chest to Shoulder high with light 5 to 10 mph East winds switching to SE, but as it stands right now, they aren’t showing much more than 10 mph, so it could be very clean in the morning.

Monday, still chest high plus, with light onshore winds

TUESDAY LOOKS TO BE THE SEMI OR POSSIBLY EPIC DAY!  Rib to Shoulder high, from the Cape to Satellite Beach, with offshore SW winds, the speed, I can’t say yet, but probably less than 10 or 12 mph.

Wednesday could be a waist to chest high day with offshore winds also.

We have been blessed 3 summers in a row for waves, and of course, the Hurricanes are that special gift, so enjoy it while it’s epic.

Tuesday 9/4/12 6:50 AM Surf Report Update, and NOTE: Sunday (9-9-12) is now the double overhead day, if the swell holds tight!, see last 6 ft 11 sec swell in November to compare, history, TS/Hurricane Leslie Surf Coming! , Surf forecast for Cape Canaveral , Cocoa Beach and Satellite Beach (September 04, 2012 posted)

QUICK Tuesday morning 7 AM UPDATE FOR TUES THRU MONDAY! (9/4 THRU 9/10) for TS/Hurricane Leslie waves Tuesday thru Monday.

November 10, 2011 ENE swell, 6 foot 11 second period, one of the medium size waves for the day, probably a 10 foot face or 11 foot face on the drop.
November 10, 2011 ENE swell, 6 foot 11 second period, one of the medium size waves for the day, probably a 10 foot face or 11 foot face on the drop.

Tuesday AM, shoulder to head high down south, and building a little thru the day.  Offshore SSW to SW winds until 10 AM only!  GET OUT EARLY TO GET THE OFFSHORES.

Wednesday, head high to overhead waves, glassy until maybe 11 AM

Thursday, swell drops to shoulder high (down south), and then builds more thru the day.  Should be glassy until close to Noon!

Friday, BIGGER!  Probably 2 to 3 foot overhead with some 4 foot overhead sets, glassy for a few hours until 11ish.

Saturday, BIGGER! Probably 2 to 5 foot overhead cleanup sets, glassy until late morning again.

SUNDAY, IS THE BIGGEST DAY NOW! By late early morning it should be a 7 foot at 15 or 16 second period swell.  What’s this mean?  GREAT CHANCE OF DOUBLE OVERHEAD WAVES!  MY CALL, 10 TO 12 FOOT FACES ON THE SET WAVES, WITH AN OCASSIONAL 13 or 14 FOOT FACE IF YOU LOOK FOR IT!.

Why do I think we  will see some 12 to 14 foot face waves on Sunday?  Well this past November 10, 2011 swell produced 10 to 13 foot faces and the swell was weaker, 6 foot at 11 seconds (Satellite Beach only),  see the post here,  and then see the data and my photos at Magicseaweed.com here.     The swell for this Sunday September 9, 2012 is 40% more powerful in force and 1 foot bigger in swell size, so that is what I use to back up my bold claims 🙂

Last, Monday also looks to be 3 to 4 foot overhead also.

Like Ross at CFLsurf.com says, these are the days that you pay for tickets to Costa Rica or somewhere 🙂

Have a Great and Safe surf week!

JUNE 15 I WILL BE DONE REMODELING MY HOME.  THEN I WILL GET BACK TO MY REAL JOB, JOHNSON AVENUE SURFERS!  MY APOLOGIES, BUT I HAVE LIVED LIKE A SLOB FOR TOO LONG, AND THAT IS ALMOST OVER 🙂

TS Beryl or whatever it is, is gonna throw us some waist high waves at the Cape and Chest high bigger sets in Satellite Beach. Winds should be in the 5 to 10 mph WSW range, and turning onshore sometime around Noon to 1 PM.  Low tide is around 7:03 AM, so if you can get out at daybreak, that may be the best, else, whatever time you choose to wake 🙂

The waves today at Satellite Beach was really fun thigh to rib high with some really workable walls.  Not glassy, but not choppy either, slight onshore winds when I went out at 9 AM.

The photo I think is Sunny, in a nice head dip, almost barrel, if it’s not Sunny, then it sure looks like his style  🙂

SUNDAY NIGHT LAZY UPDATE FOR THIS POST . The peak of the swell was delayed for Tuesday, Meaning the Size of the Swell and the Swell Period don’t arrive until Tuesday.  But we should still have rib to shoulder high waves from the Cape to Satellite Beach for Monday,  but the form may still be a little weak, until the 7 second power of the swell hits.  Then it may have a little more shoulder form to it.  Below is Friday nights info that I posted.

Nice size SE windswell coming (as if no one knew). More on that in a sec…

Last Friday,  we caught some really fun, waist to chest high waves at 4rth street North.  Brother Chad, my buddy Mike from Lakeland, another buddy Ken and Myself.

Mike took these shots of me while he was nursing a shoulder injury.  A couple of lefts, which most of the lefts for the day, were late drops due to the swell, so rail-grabbers were a requirement, if ya wanted to keep the ride.

Very very late left, but a hand on the rail, going backside, will make for a fun ride :)
Very very late left, but a hand on the rail, going backside, will make for a fun ride 🙂

It should show something for us Sunday morning,  the winds actually look light right now,  less than 7 light onshore winds.  But wind swells are a little harder , no way harder to predict.

When a leash wraps around your but on a big day. My buddy Mike took this shot last summer, from my leash wrapping around my but and leg. (no skin, this is just leg). I limped for a week.

Anyhow, it appears that we will have some rib to head high plus waves going from the Cape to Satellite Beach,  Sunday afternoon thru Wednesday, maybe Thursday.
