Tuesday afternoon is the target day ! (Sunday night update 9:30 PM) Quiksilver Surf contest highlites video , clips and more from the Ron Jon Beach ‘N Boards Fest from Saturday created by Walk on Water Productions, plus, Garrett McNamara interview by CNN from his approximate 100 foot wave ride, Surf Report Update…Surf forecast for Cape Canaveral , Cocoa Beach and Satellite Beach (March 10, 2013 posted)

TUESDAY afternoon is shaping up to be the Gift for us All!  More down below, but for a Tuesday (03/12)  morning 8:10 AM update;  the winds will be lousy at the Cape only until about 3 PM.  (maybe a little before) Why?  South and SSW winds are onshore for us, until SSW becomes more SW.  But since the SSW winds are too strong, it will be sem-choppy anyhow until 2 or 3 PM, my bet is 4 PM.  Then we should see Waist to Chest high at the Cape,  and Chest to Head High Plus in Satellite Beach.  The best time to paddle out, is 4 PM to 5 PM.  Get off work, and enjoy 2 or so hours of big glassy waves, and enjoy Nature’s Happy Hour! (thus ends the Tuesday morning surf update, all below was created the other day )

The video, we created (no Tripod used, apologies)  with some Clips/Highlites from the Saturday portion of the Ron Jon’s Beach n Board Fest, Quiksilver Surf Contest, and more. NOTE: YOUTUBE DEFAULTS AT LOW REZ 360p, SO BE SURE TO CLICK THE 4 FROM RIGHT BOTTOM ICON, FOR HD 720p 🙂

Monday, looks to remain Chest high to over head at the Cape, and still 1 to 3 feet overhead in Satellite Beach, with 9 to 15 mph SE winds, starting low at daybreak and increasing to mid-afternoon.

Tuesday, Chest high plus at the Cape, and Head high to 2 feet overhead in Satellite Beach. Rain in the morning until noon with winds from the South in the 10 to 15 mph range, slowly switching to SSW until 2ish, and hopefully total OFFSHORE AND SW by 2 or 3 PM in the 10 to 12 mph range.  Then the winds start working there way to WSW until dark.  So from 2 PM until dark (which is now around 7:30 or so, yeah daylight savings 🙂

Wednesday and Thursday, still should have some sizeable leftovers, but the winds are looking to be in the 15 to 20 mph NNW range Wednesday morning.

I just had to add this Anderson Cooper, interview of Garrett McNamara, about his 100 foot wave ride on January 29, 2013.

Enjoy and pray for an Epic Tuesday afternoon to hold true!

DON’T FORGET! – Ron Jon Beach ‘N Boards Fest is TODAY AND SUNDAY!

beach-n-boardfest-ron-jon-march-6-10-2013With live music, the world’s best action sports film festival, a giant water slide, and almost every type of boarding sport under the sun, Cocoa Beach, Florida and the Beach ‘N Boards Fest are the place to be this spring! (verbatim, makes for clarity 🙂

Beach ‘N Boardsfest will host nationally recognized boardsports athletes in demonstrations, exhibitions and contests. A junior pro surfing competition will take place at Shepard Park in addition to kite and skim board demos, and stand up paddleboard activities. Skate events will take place at Ron Jon Surf Shop and Cocoa Beach Skate Park.

Sunday, big semi-clean-semi-chop, but still fun waves.  2 to 4 foot overhead down south. Maybe 8 to 12 mph East winds. Under 10, with this ground swell, could be a lot of fun.

Monday, more of the same.

Tuesday afternoon, could be the huge glassy day, after 3 PM, is the current timeline.

Wednesday, to hard to tell right now.

Have a great Surf Fest, beach weekend!

We are truly being given a great gift with the swell coming from TS / Hurricane Leslie.  We should have Tuesday thru Saturday as it stands with overhead waves, and unless the swell drops, Saturday has a chance of being very powerful and double overhead.  If you follow the links below, you will see the photos I took on Nov. 10, 2011, of a 6 foot at 11 second swell that produced 12 + faces on the biggest sets.  I dropped two pictures in here to remind you.  One of a stand up barrell, and another, of a 13 foot face wave that the guy took a fun , maybe short ride, with a safe kickout.

Is my adrenaline pumping, well yeah it is.

If you all will remember the 6 swells we had in 2011 from August thru November, we had each of those swells with 10 foot to some of them 13 foot faces on the bigger sets.

Yeah, yeah, 🙂  I know we did not see that up here, except some of Irene at the Port (when we had the NW winds),  but this swell right here on November 10, 2011, which was a 6 foot 11 second period swell, that created this well overhead barrell, and a 7 or so foot overhead wave for more than one guy that was at least 5’10” tall , http://magicseaweed.com/photoLab/viewPhoto.php?photoId=257875&browseSession=ceca92c8ca1aa7ca80d9e573f6e660d6
If y’all will remember this post I did on the 18th, https://j-avenue-surfers.com/2011/11/10/epic-waves-today-8-foot-faces-to-rare-double-over-head-sets-in-satellite-beach-hightowers-thursday-afternoon-115-pm-surf-report-of-how-the-waves-were-today-surfing-photos-of-hightowers-posted/

Same Nov 10, 2011 swell, 7 or 8 foot overhead, 6 ft 11 second period, and this Saturday, 9-7-12 is projected to be 6 ft 15 second period swell, could be the same size or better :)
Same Nov 10, 2011 swell, 7 or 8 foot overhead, 6 ft 11 second period, and this Saturday, 9-7-12 is projected to be 6 ft 15 second period swell, could be the same size or better 🙂

For now, expect 5 big days with offshore winds for a while each day, since TS/Hurricane Leslie plans to linger out there 900 miles offshore (the perfect distance for big days and many in a row:).

Monday, is showing South winds for a couple hours from daybreak, which means 5 to 10 degrees offshore in Satellite Beach.  Probably some chest high waves too.

Tuesday, will be SSW to SW winds up until 10, maybe 11 AM at best.  Overhead, and glassy , but South of Cocoa Beach.

The rest of the week is showing much bigger, and glassy in the morning for a few hours.

This is the swell of the year folks.  Get it while you can !

EPIC SURF ON THE WAY FROM TS/HURRICANE LESLIE…the ground swell just hit the 120 buoy at 9 PM, 2.5 feet at 11 seconds.

Blue Moon from August 31, 2012 video by Walk on Water Productions…

Sunday, Leslie starts to trickle in a little, and should send in some waist high solid waves with light 3 to 5 mph onshore winds until Noon, and then only up to 10 mph later in the day for the NKF Surf Fest, so at least they will have a little more waves to show their stuff 🙂

Monday ought to bring some chest high waves at least down south, with very light onshore winds.

Tuesday, will have some head high waves in the early morning when the winds are offshore for a couple hours probably, so get out there at dawn patrol if you want the glass.  The size will kick up to probably 1 or 2 feet overhead down south, and head high to slight overhead here at the Cape.

Wednesday, morn, should have 2 foot overhead waves down south and head high to slight overhead here at the CapeWinds should be offshore till 10 maybe 11 Am, and then go onshore for sure.

Thursday morn, maybe shoulder to head high at daybreak (little size/swell drop), but then it builds in the afternoon, to definite overhead by maybe 2 feet.  Winds should be offshore in the morning until 10 Am +, then onshore, but by 5 Pmish, they may turn offshore again, so those of you missing the morning sesh, here’s your chance to catch evening glass with overhead waves for shore at dinner time.

Friday, it builds again throughout the day, and we could very well have some 3 to 4 foot waves overhead by 11 or 12, with winds offshore until maybe 12 or 1.

We will update any wind or swell changes that appear significant 🙂

Enjoy the Surf Fest and the upcoming Hurricane Surf.  The storm is around or will be around 900 miles offshore which is the best position, we get more days of surf when it is far enough away like that.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend!

SURF DELAYED….duh

Okay, so at least our waves hit Saturday morning 🙂

We should expect waist high waves at daybreak for the Cape with 5 to 10 mph ENE winds in the morning for Saturday, and chest high down south.  The size builds a little throughout the day with winds only increasing to around 15 mph.  It should close the day with rib high at the Cape and chest to shoulder high in Satellite Beach.

Sunday, it loses steam or power at daybreak with the swell dropping in period to 6 or 8 second period, but it should be maybe chest high at the Cape in the AM and head high down south.  But by dark it will be pushing maybe double overhead in Satellite Beach with NE winds over 20 mph, ouch.

Monday, huge also, probably double overhead and winds onshore over 30 mph down south, so the smaller chop will be a gift here at the Cape.  The swell drops in size all day Monday, but will stay overhead till dark for sure.

Tuesday,  down South or Playalinda are the place to berib to chest high, with strong south winds, so the drive to Playalinda would be worth it.  South winds are 32 degrees offshore at Playalinda.

Wednesday, starts out with leftover Issac, and builds thru the day with the push from Depression Joyce.  Wednesday, ought to be waist high and glassy with strong offshore winds, and should pick up to chest high down south and getting glassier all day.

Yeah, I am stretching it trying to call this far out, but I feel comfortable with the calls 🙂

THURSDAY September 1st,  is the 26th Annual NKF Pro AM Surf Festival which has always been run by Rich Salick, who died this past July.  So be sure, to help his awesome event live on, the Fest starts Thursday and runs thru Sunday, with surfing competition for all ages, boards and genders 🙂  Saturday will be a real fun day at the Pier with all the Food, Vendors, Drinks and more, so check it all out!

Have a great Surf weekend, and enjoy some big chop.  It’ll put hair on your chest.  (well for guys anyhow)

It wasn’t quite breaking at Johnson Ave today (Friday 8/3/2012), and I wasn’t quite ready to start work, so I took a drive down to Satellite Beach, at about 1 to 2 hours after high tide, like 10:30 to 11:30 AM, and took some surf photos of some fun looking 1 to 2.678 foot waves, fairly glassy, only 2 or 3 or 4 people out.  And a few other miscellaneous photos, …

We may have a wind swell blow in Saturday sometime to bring us some waist to chest chop until maybe Sunday or so, but it is a low period wind chop, so hard to tell if it will be rideable or not.  But, it’s a shot at something, so get excited.

Monday night, we may have a 1 to 1.5 day small ground swell to hit for the evening and for Tuesday morning, in the waist to chest high range. Sunday night and Monday night we’ll update the winds to see if Tuesday looks like it could be a really fun day, or just a day 🙂

SATURDAY NIGHT 10:30 PM SURF UPDATE FOR SUNDAY MORNING!  The winds are supposed to lay down to around 5 mph East in the Am, instead of the 10 to 15 mph that I thought would be here, and the winds may stay light until after lunch. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? Well, this looks like a ground swell, so we could have some lines with nice form and rib high waves at the Cape and chest to shoulder high maybe down South with very nice form.

The music is by the Phenomenal “Jack Johnson” , Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Surfer, Videographer, need I say more about Jack?  🙂  The track is titled “Traffic In The Sky”, and the Insane photo is by the great Photographer Malia Johnson and her husband Stu Johnson, Photographer, they both live in Fiji  and shoot the epic “Cloudbreak” and “Restaurants” surfbreaks in Tavuara, Fiji. I have them mentioned in my Links page on this site.

Coming Surf!  For 2 days running, it still appears that Monday is the potential Epic Day with chest high waves down South and maybe bigger sets, and waist high plus at the Cape (from a ground swell), with offshore winds maybe all morning. Today the swell starts rolling in slowly, peaks on Sunday with median onshore winds maybe chest high at the Cape, so Sunday at the right tides (high going low), it could be really fun!  Tuesday may also have some morning offshore winds with the size dropping off some.

When I look at the buoys tonight, I will probably do an update for Sunday and talk about the wind speeds a little more accurately.

Have a Great Weekend and Enjoy Summer Waves!  Three summers in a row we have had waves (not including Canes), so our God has been gracious 🙂

Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards Nominees 2012 Video plus Lazy Update Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 PM with 48th Annual Easter Surf Festival , Huge Paddle in session at Jaws Video with 50 foot plus faces with Jeff Rowley, Wednesday afternoon April 4rth Surf Report/Update 3:30 PM , Surf Forecast for Cape Canaveral , Cocoa Beach and Satellite Beach (April 04, 2012 posted)

Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards Nominees 2012 Video plus Lazy Update Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 PM  , Thursday may have some leftovers, but the offshore winds are blowing west out at the 120, so I wouldn’t count on much Thursday morning.  It shows a 1.5 foot ground swell which I have seen a swell that size produce chest high at Perkins, but in this case, I go with knee to waist high, North going South.  Saturday some time the big wind swell starts pushing in, bring big chop waves for the Easter Surf Fest, yeawwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday big overhead chop, Waves should be here thru Monday still overhead with reduced onshore winds for Monday, and maybe some Tuesday rib high glass.

Be sure to check out the 48th Annual Easter Surf Fest at Shepard Park and the Ccocoa Beach Pier.

Everything below is from Surf Report that I did on Tuesday April 3rd.

Upcoming Surf for maybe Wednesday waist high somewhere and overhead windswell for Sunday , Monday ………….in a moment 🙂

BIG JAWS/PEAHI PADDLE IN SESSION VIDEO WITH JEFF ROWLEY

This is spectacular video footage of Jaws, from one of the two big paddle in sessions, this one on January 4, 2012, this year.  Wave size was 45 to 60 foot faces, approx.  The music, the insane rides and drops, totally awesome,  especially from Jeff Rowley, the newcomer to Peahi, who is from Australia.  Jeff is nominated for the Billabong XXL Ride of the Year award.

Surf Update;  Tuesday night a maybe ground swell rolls in, and for Wednesday morning, possibly thigh to rib high waves and brisk offshore winds.

Thursday morning leftovers probably, and then flat till Sunday for the most part.

Sunday could be some overhead chop down south and maybe some chest high stuff at the Cape.  The swell angle is NE,  so we will get some blockage, how much, can’t say 🙂  We should have more big chop with winds backing off on Monday to under 15 mph possibly, but we’ll know more definite on Saturday night.

Today,  we’ll be seeing weak chop/slop coming in, but by tonight and by Saturday morning, we should have some overhead chop down South, and chest to shoulder high here at the Cape.

Sunday, could be SSW at 5 -7 mph in Satellite Beach  in the early morning, maybe until 8 or 9 AM. Canaveral and Cocoa Beach are showing South winds at daybreak. Should be chest to shoulder high from North to South respectively.  Get it early!  It will be high tide going low and at 8-9 AM it will be mid-tide, with Low tide around 11:50 AM Sunday morning.  That’s your prime time with light winds and tide 🙂

Monday morning the swell drops way off, but…the final period strength of the swell rolls in Monday morning so at daybreak, it could have some waist high power with offshore winds until 8 or 9 Am, maybe.

We’ll give an update sometime Saturday to see how my 40 % “stick my neck out there” chance of offshore winds in Satellite Beach is falling into place 😉

New swell starts rolling in sometime Tuesday it looks like, another wind swell.

SUNDAY MORNING UPDATE AT 8:30 AM;  THE SMALL INCOMING SWELL WAS 3.5 FT AT 11 SECONDS AT THE 120, BUT……….it stopped coming in at 11 PM last night (Saturday night), which means about 8 or 9 hours travel time to our beaches, so it was here at maybe 8 AM, and then dropped to 2.5 ft at 10 seconds at the 120 at Midnight  which is not the minimum we need for a swell to hit the beach.  We need about 2.6 to 3 feet at 10 or 11 seconds to get a ground swell that is ridable here (Ross at CFL surf figured that one out). Sorry folks, no waves.  Maybe a ripple for SUP’s and big long boards when the tide gets lower, but the winds turn onshore by noon.  But have a great Sunday anyhow with the nice weather 🙂 Back to Friday nights update post below……..

Big, No.  ……….Possibly fun and rideable, yeah 🙂    Tonight an Easterly Swell is creeping in and kicking out the steep NE swell we’ve had.

Thursday was great, waist high plus in Satellite, perfect glass, light 5 to 7 offshore winds.  It was even comfortable without any suit.  Yeah, I did have a rash guard on and it was 1:00 and a nice 60 degrees, so yeah that did help.

Brother Chad...
Brother Chad...

Anyhow, Saturday morn should bring some knee to rib high waves from the Cape to Satellite.  Light offshore winds SW to West most of Saturday around 3 to 6 mph.  I’d say, if it ain’t big enough

Oldwaverider....T.S. Maria
Oldwaverider....T.S. Maria

here at the Cape, pick your spot in Satellite at mid-tide high going low and you should have some waist high long lines somewhere. It will be 52 at daybreak, but by 9 AM sunny and 60 ° , so if you don’t want the suit to bog ya down, it will be rash guard-able.

Dr. John...

Sunday, should be 6 to 9.5 inches bigger on the face, same air temps, offshore from the NW,

but……………………….., it will turn onshore by Noon or earlier.  So if you’re gonna do Church,  do it at 8, and be in the water by 9:30.  May have some rib high waves down South and maybe some thigh high at the Cape.
